Songwriting
Each Songwriting class will begin with a free write, followed by listening to our favorite songs. Analyzing song structure, rhyme scheme, line length, phrasing, and voice, while learning about lyrics and melody, we discover just what makes a powerful song. Next, we will explore new ways to find and collect inspiration and ideas and use them to generate 'song starts'. Finally, we follow ‘song maps’ that help us shape our writing efforts into original songs that express ourselves, our views, and our stories.

Born in Toronto, Canada, Mimi Cross is an author and songwriter who grew up in New Jersey. She received a Bachelor of Music from Ithaca College, where she became editor of the literary arts magazine, and an MA from NYU.
Her first two novels Before Goodbye and Shining Sea are published by Skyscape.
